A bit more about Mitchell.

Mitchell Norman is from country South Australia, growing up on a horse stud, Mitchell was taught the value of hard work from a young age, but Mitchell’s father also instilled the value of a good education. Mitchell took this heart and a love of techology drove him in completing a Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons) with first-class honours at the University of South Australia (UniSA).

Mitchell’s honours project, supervised by Prof. Bruce Thomas of UniSA and Dr. Matt Adcock of CSIRO, focused on Immersive Data Analytics. This project gave Mitchell a passion for all things Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), and for Human-Computer Interactions (HCI) and shortly after completing his honour Mitchell applied for entry into a Ph.D.

Since beginning his Ph.D. in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Mark Billinghurst, Mitchell has focused his research efforts on collaborative Mixed Reality (MR) experiences with a focus on those that require many collaborators across many spaces. Mitchell’s years of experience with MR technologies have given him great insight into the niche challenges that need to be overcome to deploy successful software.
